Question about itch:// links

Is there a way to launch a game I have installed using itch:// in the app? I saw something in the v26.17.0 patch notes that made me think it might be possible, but I wanted to ask.

I'd also like to know if it's possible to automatically sign into a certain account upon starting the app, for instance by running "PATH-TO-ITCH"/itch-setup --prefer-launch -- "MY-ACCOUNT" or something.

We added a launch flag with the install URL: itch://install?game_id=10949&launch (with optional upload_id parameter)

This will let you do itch-setup --prefer-launch -- "itch://install?game_id=10949&launch"

This will show the install screen if the game isn't installed yet, otherwise show a dialog to confirm launching the game.

We don't support this right now as far as I'm aware, but it would be a good thing to add. I just tested, but with the launch url it will make you choose an account then show the install/launch dialog automatically after if the app isn't already running

The next version of the app is going to have something better than the itch:// url, you can use itch-setup --run-game to proxy to the app's installed butler, to launch the app as a separate process. This will make it easy for launchers or shortcuts to run a game without depending on the running itch app. (it also supports profile id)
