Wrong gem version installed → File.exists? undefined

When I run rvm gemset empty I get

ERROR:  While executing gem ... (NoMethodError)
    undefined method 'exists?' for class File

      File.exists?( File.join( gem_install_dir, 'gems', spec.full_name ) )
          ^^^^^^^^
Did you mean?  exist?

I see the command is installing gem-empty-1.1.2, which doesn't have the exist? yet. In current version of gem-empty it
seems to be fixed. Seems like versions specification mistake maybe? 🤷

Not sure if it is in RVM or here, so starting here.

Can you try rvm get master and check if the issue still exists?

Would I be then able to get back to stable?

Yes, rvm get stable but bear in mind stable is very outdated and not recommended anymore to be used.

Seems still the same. Even tried to restart the Terminal, in case it is something with paths / runtime / whoknowswhat.

Definitely an RVM problem.

I encountered it as well & resolved it for the moment by installing gem-empty version 1.2.0 & then running gem empty after making sure I was using the target RVM gemset.

This not only uninstalled all the other gems I wanted removed, but uninstalled both the version of gem-empty I had just installed and the 1.1.2 version of gem-empty that RVM had installed when I tried running rvm gemset empty X.

I had to

1. rvm get master
2. gem uninstall gem-empy
3. rm $HOME/.rvm/gem-cache/gem-empty-1.1.2.gem
4. rvm gemset empty

Then it worked fine. Not sure would it have worked without rvm get master...

Without removing $HOME/.rvm/gem-cache/gem-empty-1.1.2.gem it would always use version that used File.exists?
